STEFANIA BOEMI hand painted vase Musidora
Rich in artistic and historical significance, this vase is an iconic tribute to the rich Moorish influence in Sicily. Musidora (Greek for “gift of the Muses”) is made of terracotta, or unglazed ceramic. It boasts a bold face: her hair is tied in a turban and trimmed with a fez and jewels, while deep-set eyes and full lips accentuate a piercing gaze. The white matte glaze contrasts strikingly with the black stripe across the eyes, creating intense color and depth of texture.
This vase will look best in a spacious hallway, hall or living room.
This vase was created by the Sicilian artist Stefania Boemi . She looks for her materials among objects of the past that convey emotions linked to memory. They are Sicilian things, selected, untied and reassembled, stripped and repainted, disassembled and reassembled. She observes and studies what best characterizes the island's traditions and re-evaluates their uses. The main idea is to bring back to life previously familiar objects that have fallen into disuse. Each piece is assembled by hand and transformed into a unique work.
