The history of this elegant silver sugar bowl dates back to the mid-19th century, when cane sugar, imported from abroad, was used for sweetening. It was an exclusive and expensive commodity and, due to its uniqueness, had to be protected from theft. Silver or plated sugar bowls with padlocks were best suited for this purpose.

It was tasteful to have several sugar bowls at home, each for a different occasion. The most admired were, of course, silver or silver-plated accessories, because they symbolized wealth, a high level of dining culture and were, just like today, an investment and a guarantee of wealth. The model of the sugar bowl designed by Alfons and Józef Fraget (hence the "fragetka") is still produced today.
