The roots of the Bevilacqua family date back to 1499. The weaving mill was founded by Luigi Bevilacqua in 1875. He took over the looms and machines from the old silk weavers' guild of the Republic of Venice. The company has been operating the old Venetian weaving art ever since. Today, it combines historical techniques and patterns with modern elements, creating around 3,500 designs of hand-woven velvets and other fabrics from Byzantine art to Art Deco. The weaving mill produces so-called soprarizzo velvet, which is made from an upper, dark layer of hand-cut velvet and a lower, light layer of stretched velvet that matches the base fabric.
